Wood Slip-resistant in outdoor areas: GriP New Wood

Wood is a special surface – especially when it comes to slip resistance. Not only are there different types of wood, but this natural material also undergoes significant changes.

Wood becomes slippery

Micro-moss and fine dust accumulate on terraces, bridges, bicycle paths, and outdoor walkways, causing the material to weather and become dirty. This leads to extremely slippery surfaces. Wood becomes extremely slippery when damp or wet. Wooden surfaces are then very dangerous for both cyclists and pedestrians.

New anti-slip formula for wood

It is almost impossible to apply a surface coating that lasts at all, let alone in the long term.
The experts at GriP Safety Coatings have taken on this major challenge. A new type of anti-slip coating has been developed and tested – and now approved!
GriP Safety Coatings has further optimized the formula of its previous product, GSAS. New raw materials have been used to increase adhesion. The result is an extremely durable material with the new product name GriP New WOOD P5/R12. The transparent and weather-resistant anti-slip coating can be used on all types of natural wood, especially outdoors.

GriP New Wood P5/R12
  • The grainy two-component coating GriP New WOOD is environmentally friendly, UV-resistant, and has slip resistance class R12, which corresponds to DIN EN 16165.
  • Moisture in the wood, temperature changes, drying times, and hardness—all of these factors make it difficult to coat the surface of wood. GriP New WOOD was developed to cover all these special features. Its watery viscosity makes it easy to work with, even on large surfaces.
  • The new material is harder than the previous one. The previous properties, such as service life, have been significantly extended. That is why SWISSGrip now offers a two-year warranty on material adhesion.

Application

If municipalities wish to use this material themselves for coating, all they need is a large digital scale, buckets, and a large paint roller with a lance as equipment. Technical documentation is included. No great technical skills are required for application. On-site training or online instruction is available on request. GriP has many examples of applications, including coated wooden bridges, footbridges, and walkways in Germany and Switzerland.
