Metal is smooth, so attempts are made to literally get a grip on slip resistance with dimples and corrugations. This does not always work, and when moisture and wetness are added, adhesion is even lower.
The access to the slide in the outdoor pool is made of stainless steel. Although stainless steel with a knobbed embossing was chosen to increase slip resistance, visitors slipped before they even reached the slide itself. A sign warning “Caution: slippery surface!” was even put up. SWISSGriP's anti-slip coating was then applied to the stainless steel platform with embossed nubs. Since then, access to the water slide has had an R12 slip resistance rating, and the fun of sliding only begins once you reach the actual slide.
