Anti-slip coating on metal staircase.

Chequered plate in outdoor areas with anti-slip coating ensures safety.

Steel plate is a durable, robust material that is often used for outdoor staircases. As metal is smooth, chequer plate is chosen for walkways and stairs to increase slip resistance. However, even with chevrons and studs, the surface does not achieve the adhesion required for slip-resistant walking. We therefore often receive requests for retrofitting to slip resistance classes R10, R11 or R12.

The municipal building authority was looking for a way to improve the slip resistance of an external steel staircase with a chequer plate covering. As the metal staircase is the first route for nursery children to get outside to their play area and also serves as an escape route, a permanently slip-resistant solution was urgently needed.
