Safety coating in indoor swimming pool.

Tiles in an indoor swimming pool are equipped with R12 safety coating.

The risk of slipping in swimming pools is unfortunately a real issue. Wet tiles reduce slip resistance and lead to a high risk of falls. Children and young people in particular run around, romp about and pay less attention to warning signs: head, tooth and arm injuries are the most common. The typical danger spots in an indoor swimming pool are the pool edge, showers & changing rooms, and stairs. Especially at transitions from dry to wet.

Years ago, the school swimming pool had subjected the tiles to an acid treatment. This involves roughening the tiles using a chemical process (acid). Unfortunately, the roughening does not last long and after a while has the opposite effect: the tile surface becomes even smoother and therefore more slippery. When there were repeated slipping accidents in the indoor pool and surrounding area, an alternative anti-slip solution for the tiles was sought. The safety coating from SWISSGriP was used.

The area around the swimming pool, the access points and stairs to it, as well as the shower rooms, toilets, and changing rooms were coated with our safety coating. The anti-slip coating used has the highest slip resistance class C for barefoot areas and slip resistance class R12 for footwear.
